Tax Awareness: Kara receives Presidential Award for promoting tax awareness and education
KARA was honoured to be among the Presidential Awardees during the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Taxpayers’ Day 2016. At an event organized by KRA on 28th October 2016 to celebrate taxpayers in Kenya, KARA received the Distinguished Taxpayers 2016 Award for Rental Income Awareness. Urban Development: Implementation of Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN) begins

The Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) has embarked on implementation of the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN) whose preparation was finalized in 2014. The goals of the plan include: To provide spatial order of physical investments; Enhance quality of life for inhabitants; Guide investments by providing location criteria; Embrace the evolving urban policy regime in integrating social economic, environmental and political issues under one unitary framework. The County Government has identified priority programs in various sectors to be undertaken under the NIUPLAN. The sectors include urban development; urban transport; infrastructure development; Environment and urban development management. Kara has been invited by the County Government to be part of the team that will monitor implementation of the plan and provide feedback. We intend to play an active role not only in monitoring implementation of the plan but also in the design of the various projects under the plan.
Service Delivery: Kara nominated to be a member of taskforce on promoting better service delivery
Kara has been nominated to be part of a taskforce to be appointed by the Governor to engage Nairobi City County Government in finding solutions to the challenges facing businesses and residents of Nairobi. The proposed taskforce draws its membership from the members of Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) coalition currently hosted by Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM). Sustainable Development Goals: Government challenged to invest in public awareness and education.
The 51st edition of the Kara Bi-monthly Talk Series (BTS) forum was held on 11th October 2016 on the theme: Understanding Sustainable Development Goals and expected impact on Kenya’s development. The forum was held against the backdrop of the recent adoption of the 17 SDGs by the global community. The goals are designed to guide the global development agenda and address socio-economic challenges such as climate change, poor sanitation, poverty, illness among others. During the BTS forum, participants challenged the Government to take lead in creating public awareness and education on the SDGs since the level of public awareness regarding the goals is still very low and majority don’t understand how the SDGs will impact on Kenyans…Read_More
Transport: We need planned cities to cater for pedestrians and motorists
Most people would agree that Nairobi is one of the most pedestrian-unfriendly cities in the world. It is a city built for the motor vehicle, not for people who ride bicycles or walk. Few of the new roads that have been built have pavements or bicycle paths alongside them. Yet, pedestrians and cyclists comprise the majority of road users in the city.
