As you may be aware, incidences of buildings collapsing and in some cases leading to loss of lives are on the rise particularly in major urban areas.
Update on Land Rates Court Case
The land rates case came up for hearing on May 19, 2015 before Justice George Odunga and various parties to the case made their submissions. The judge set 30th June 2015 as the date when the ruling will be made. We will update you on the outcome.
We have received numerous enquiries from members on whether to pay the new or old rates for this year. The High Court made an order that rate payers continue paying the old rates until such a time the case is fully determined. You are therefore within the provisions of the law to continue paying the old rates (17% of Unimproved Site Value) and while doing so, you can make reference to the court order for case number JR 113 of 2014.
We appreciate those who have made their contribution to the KARA Rates Case Kitty and request those who are yet to contribute to do so as soon as possible to enable us off-set the court case related costs. Contributions can be made through cheque payment to KARA or call us for MPESA payment.

Following the decision by the Nairobi City County Government to increase land rates from 17% to 34% of Unimproved Site Value (USV), Kara decided to be enjoined as an interested party in a case filed by Kaputei Gardens Residents Association.
