Kara in partnership with UN Habitat and Tana River County government held stakeholder engagement forums in Tana River County on 22nd March 2023 and 19th April 2023 at Laza Leisure

Lodge, to gather information, opinions and views from the various stakeholders to aid in the formulation and drafting of the Hola local Physical and land use development plan. The forums were attended by various stakeholders such as the National Land Commission, County Administrators, County Land Officials, Local Chiefs, CSOs and members of the public.

Speaking at the forum Kara CEO Henry Ochieng stated that Kara has partnered with UN Habitat to implement a project aimed at Promoting Effective Local Community & Neighbourhood Associations’ Involvement in the Go-Blue Initiative. Some of the key activities under the project is to facilitate development of Hola Municipality Local Physical & Land-use Development Plan; Kilifi Neighborhood Regeneration Plan; Upgrade and maintenance of selected public spaces in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties; development of citizen engagement digital platform for Mombasa and Kilifi Counties for enhancing active participation and involvement of neighbourhood associations and local communities in the implementation of urban development plans.

The Project Activity falls within the wider Project “Go Blue Result Area 2 – “Connecting People, Cities, and the Ocean: Innovative Land-Sea Planning and Management for a Sustainable and Resilient Kenyan Coast”, implemented by UN-Habitat and UNEP for the period December 2020 – December 2024 with an aim of supporting the development of a sustainable blue economy in Kenya by contributing to the economic development for coastal urban citizens and the protection of coastal and marine assets.
