In the run up to the just concluder General Elections, Kara held a series of gubernatorial candidates debates to provide a platform for county residents to engage the candidates on service delivery agenda.

Besides enabling county residents to understand the vision and plans of the candidates for the county, the debates were also intended to enable the electorates make informed decision when electing a governor for their respective county. Seven debates were held in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, Kitui, Embu and Kakamega. The discussions focused on key service delivery issues that are of interest to County residents. These were: Land and physical planning; Housing & Urban Development; Transport and Infrastructure; Youth and Employment; Health, Water and Sanitation; Public Participation; County Governance; Trade and Finance.

The issues and commitments made at the debates were documented and the next step will be to engage the elected governors to ensure that the issues and commitments are prioritized. Kara appreciates the various Resident Associations who organized debates for their local leaders (MCAs and MPs) and we encourage you to sustain the engagement and ensure that the leaders are held accountable.
